This is EASSy, the submarine cable that at long last gave East Africa a modern connection to the Internet in July, 2010. It has a capacity of 3.84 terabits per second. It is the highest capacity system in Sub-Saharan Africa. Before the cable went active, countries served by EASSy had to rely on slow satellite connections.
